I created this site because so many people ask me, “Where did you get the idea for this piece? How did you do that one? Where can I get a print of that? Do you do commissions?”
So why not answer? Yes, my main portfolio site, Lyon-Art.com, has many more pieces on it, but less of the stories and histories you’ll find here that go much more deeply into: where ideas came from, where I was when I did a piece – geographically, mentally and emotionally, what I was thinking, or the process, tools, and kind of materials, etc., that it took to get it made.
Earlier in my life it never occurred to me that anyone would be interested in that stuff. I’d get angry if someone asked me, “What does this painting mean?” I felt offended that the message of my work wasn’t plainly obvious to them. I wanted them to just allow the painting or sculpture to speak for itself. I didn’t realize that not everyone knows how to do that.
Then a seasoned collector tuned me in. He said, “That’s not what people want when they gaze at art. They want a whole experience, to be drawn in as the artist was drawn in; almost to be in the artist’s shoes as she creates and brings this piece into manifestation.”
And he said, “People want a shift of thinking that leads them from ordinary, everyday consciousness, through a little journey into the world created by the image or the sculpture, and out the other side with a new, pleasing perception.”
That’s what art’s about:
creating and transmitting new perceptions.
So that’s what I strive for. Pieces that speak for themselves AND that take you, the viewer, to another experience, another world, another realm, where you can enjoy rich, gem-like fantasy color, round, voluptuous sculptural forms, and whimsical or poignant emotion.
Here’s a little sampling of what you’ll see here.
With most of the images here, I tell the stories that go along with them – where I got the idea, or what happened as I created it, about the medium or the feeling I wanted to express. I hope you enjoy cruising through my work here. The work here was completed all the way from 1985 to the present, including many new peices that are still available.
WANT ART? If you see one you like and want that is not marked ‘sold,’ you can inquire about it by emailing me at Lyon (at) ArtbyLyon.com. I’ll get back to you lickety-split!
SOLD ART: If you see a piece you like and it is marked ‘sold,’ you might think of asking to commission one like it. I say ‘like it’ because no two pieces will ever be the same – I’m not a machine and do not crank out identical pieces! But you know and appreciate that….
PRINTS: If you like a sold painting or other 2-D work, you can look for prints in various sizes, framed and unframed, on paper or canvas (giclées) here: PrintsbyLyon.com. I even have prints of some of the images of my favorite pieces of sculpture. Or, commission one like it.
CARDS: If you like my work here, perhaps you like something on greeting cards: CardsbyLyon.com
SEND A FRIEND! Maybe you like my work, maybe not. But I bet if you don’t, you probably know someone who might like it and who would enjoy these pages. I hope you’ll send them the link to the site! Thanks, and I hope you do like it!
FACEBOOK: And I’d be so honored if you’d go HERE and hit the ‘like’ button! Thanks!
Have fun cruising around!
